NASA Wellness Day 5K
Exercise: Had my best race of the year. After a 2 mile warmup (at about 7:45 pace), ran an 18:42 for first overall win in this 5K on Redstone Arsenal. (
6:01.9 per mile pace) I was in the lead from the start and didn't see any mile split markers so I really had no idea how I was doing until close to the end when I saw I had a good chance to go under 19 minutes. Considering I had done very hard workouts 3 of the previous 4 days, I'm not sure what to attribute my good time to. I have been taking vitamin B-50 supplements the last two days.

Big Hill day again
Exercise: Did the "big" hill again, this time with Carl S. Ran from UAH Fitness Center over to Hillmont (11:30 warmup). Then did 5 hill repeats and jogged backed down. Then ran 12 minutes back to UAH. 43:03 total.

Boeing Halloween 5K and Sunday long run
Exercise: Saturday did the Boeing Halloween 5K in downtown Huntsville. Finished 12 overall out of 277, first in my age group and first overall Master's winner in 19:02. Tried to start out conservatively but failed miserably (as usual). My split times were:
1 Mile : 5:52
2 mile : 6:25
3 mile : 6:06
0.1 : 37.20
Sunday, I did 1 Hour and 34 minutes on the trails on Monte Sano (probably about 11 miles). Did the north Dizzy Fifties loop, except I took the Logan point/Keith trail, then the Sinks back to Mtn. Mist up to O'Shaunessy Point. Then finished out the last half of the North Plateau loop.

Hill Work
Exercise : Ran 12 minutes (about 1.5 miles) warmup over to HillMont. Then did 5 hill repeats with a recovery jog down the hill each time. One of the toughest workouts I've done in a while - I this this hill must be about 1/4 mile long and gets steeper as you near the end. Then I ran about a mile back to UAH Fitness Center (41:34 total).

Long run day
Exercise : Met up with some guys to do a long run up on Monte Sano. Did about 1 mile warmup in the dark. Then did 9.2 miles (in 1:23:54 -
9:07 per mile pace (lots of hills)) with Tim Vinson, Mark Davis, and Jason Gilliam. Total - little over 10 miles.

Liz Hurley Breast Cancer 5K day
Well, not quite as fast as I would have liked - 19:07 (
6:10 per mile pace). Started out a little too fast even though it didn't feel bad at the time. I paid for it on the last two miles which had more hills. First mile was 5:51.
Overall I finished 3rd in my age group (out of 41) and overall 19th out of 297 men and 19th out of 1025 total (i.e., I beat all of the women :) ).
After I finished I went back to run with my wife's friend, Margarita, and pushed her to a new PR of 24:59 and third in her age goup.

Basketball Day and Pre Liz Hurley 5K Day
Thursday Exercise : Lifted weights at UAH Fitness center and played 2 hours full court basketball at Berachah Gym - lost 4.5 pounds in one day (water loss I'm sure).
Friday Exercise : Lifted weights at UAH Fitness center. Did 250 reps with jump rope.
Plan on running Liz Hurley 5K in downtown Huntsville tomorrow, so am hydrating frequently.

15K Race Day
Exercise : Did the Monte Sano 15K this morning in 1:03:20 (6:48 per mile pace). Placed third in age group (21st out of 252 finishers overall). Was a whopping 5 seconds faster than last year. Very cool temps, so I can't use that as an excuse. My plan was to average 6:45 per mile - did that for the first 5, but the hills and lack of really long run got to me on the last 4 where I slowed down to around 6:56. Counting warmup up and cool down about 10.5 miles total.

Tuesday, Oct 9 - Speedwork Day
Exercise: Tuesday speedwork with Carl S. Ran 1 mile from my work place over to Lockheed field for warmup. Then we did 4x1000 and 2x200 for 2.5 miles total speedwork and then ran back another mile to Trideum for cooldown.
